The Connection Between Low Income and Mental Health: What Resources are Helpful?
In this blog, I will provide some practical options for individuals and families. Financially instability can be a huge stressor especially these days when gas prices, groceries and college tuition are soaring. This blog will help to alleviate some of the external stress of money that impacts mental health. I am providing this resource because a lack of stable income may cause clients anxiety, depression and prevent them from paying for medical care. Sharing an alternative option can help stabilize a client’s environment leading to greater independence and reducing stress. This may also help relieve overall mental health and increase well being.
Local credit unions are a great resource and not a lot of people know about them! Banking with a checking account usually requires at least an amount of about 1,5000$ to 2,000$ as a minimum amount in a checking account otherwise there is a fee each month. Credit unions do not require a minimum amount in certain checking accounts. This means you can have less than 1,500 to 2,000 dollars and avoid a banking fee!
Disclaimer: I am not a financial advisor or CPA and I cannot tell you what bank to choose. I am an LMFT and this post is for educational and resource-sharing purposes only. I have no kickbacks, referral fess or incentives to local credit unions nor any banks. This resource is to help reduce financial stress as I witness this a lot in my practice.
